Pattern: Joint Deformity Impediment Disorder due to Deficiency Cold of the Kidney and Du Mai

Key Symptoms: Lumbar spine pain that is exacerbated by exposure to Cold, stiffness and curvature of the spinal column, limitation in bending the lumbar spine and stretching the leg.
Secondary Symptoms: In severe cases there may be pain in both hip joints and damage to the osseous tissue in the hip and sacrum resulting in restricted motion of the legs and pain in the lower back and legs. There may also be fatigue and poor physical strength.

Tongue: Slightly white
Pulse: Sunken ans slippery, or sunken and string-like


Ingredients

Shu Di Huang 15-20g
Yin Yang Huo 9-12g
Gou Ji 30-45g
Zhi Fu Zi 9-12g
Lu Jiao Jiao 9g (melted into decoction)
Xu Duan 12-20g
Gu Sui Bu 15-20g
Qiang Huo 12g
Du Huo 10g
Gui Zhi 12-20g
Chi Shao 12g
Bai Shao 12g
Zhi Mu 12-15g
Zhe Chong 6-9g
Fang Feng 12g
Ma Huang 3-9g
Gan Jiang 6-9g
Niu Xi 12-18g
Zhi Shan Jia 6-9g
Cao Wu 5-9g

Subsitutions:
In the UK several ingredients must be substituted. These include:

Shan Jia == Mu Dan Pi
Fu Zi & Cao Wu == Xian Mao + Du Zhong (since usual Gui Zhi & Yin Yang Huo are already in the decoction)
Zhe Chong == E Zhu + Ru Xiang


Preparation: Decoction.


Actions: Supplements the Kidney and Dispels Cold, strengthens the Du Mai and assists the Yang, Invigorates Stasis and frees the Luo Mai, strengthens the Bones and soothes the Sinews



Notes:
The translation of this formula is taken from Jiao Shu-De's book in English although it more literally translates as "Kidney Supplementing, Governor Strengthening, Cure the Lame Decoction".
