Xi Di Tou Ying Tang

Rhinocerous and Rehmannia Decocotion for Venting the Nutritive Level

Category: Formulas that Clear Heat

Pattern: Wind-Warmth sinking into the Interior leading to early stage Ying level disorders where the pathogen is located between the Ying and Wei levels.

Key Symptoms: Burning fever without sweating, physical and mental irritability, restlessness that worsens at night and transient periods of delirious speech.
Secondary Symptoms: Both eyes are kept permanently either open or closed or has blood shot eyes, extremities may be cold

Tongue: White coating at the front but crimson at the root.
Pulse: Rapid in the left distal position, submerged and rapid as if trapped in the right distal position


Ingredients

Xi Jiao 2.4g
Xian Di Huang 12g
Dan Dou Chi 6g
Mu Dan Pi 6g
Lian Qiao 9g
Zhi Zi 6g
Lu Gen 60g
Deng Xin Cao 1.5g

Subsitutions:
Xi Jiao is substituted with 30-120g of Shui Niu Jiao due to the endangered status of the rhinoceros. In the UK all animal products are prohibited and is usually substituted with Xuan Shen and Huang Lian in a 3:1 ratio.


Preparation: Lu Gen and Deng Xin Cao are first decocted together and the strained liquid is used to decoct the other ingredients.


Actions: Unblocks the Qi dynamic in the Upper Jiao and Exterior to vent Wind-Heat
