Category: Formulas that Clear Heat

Pattern: Heat accumulation in the Stomach (Upper Yangming)

Key Symptoms: Toothache (especially when extends into the head), bleeding and sores of the gums, facial pain
Secondary Symptoms: Swollen painful tongue, lips or jaw, fever, bad breath, painful areas respond favourably to cold and worsen with heat

Tongue: Red, scanty coating
Pulse: Large, rapid


Ingredients

Huang Lian 6g
Sheng Ma 9g
Mu Dan Pi 9g
Sheng Di Huang 6-9g
Dang Gui Shen 9g


Preparation: Decoction.


Actions: Drains Stomach Fire, cools the Blood, nourishes the Yin

Contraindications: Toothache due to Wind-Cold, tooth and gum problems due to Yin deficiency
