Modified Formulation of Heart Qi Drink

Pattern: Qi constraint and water accumulating in the interior

Key Symptoms: This formula treats several presentations:


  • Palpitations, rebellious Qi and fullness in the epigastrium, focal distention in the chest and flanks with heaviness of the body and oedema;

  • Numbness and painful obstruction;
    Pulling pain in the feet and legs;
    Acute stiffness in the upper back and shoulders;

  • Acid reflux;

  • Urinary difficulty

In modern Japan it is used to treat oedema, angina pectoris and chronic bronchitis
Secondary Symptoms: Darkish complexion below the eyes and temples, depression, headache, dizziness, insomnia.

Gui Zhi 3g
Fu Ling 5g
Zhi Ban Xia 4g
Mu Tong 4g
Sang Bai Pi 3g
Bing Lang 4g
Zi Su Zi 2g
Bie Jia 4g
Zhi Shi 4g
Wu Zhu Yu 3g
Gan Cao 2g

Subsitutions:
In the UK the following substitutions must be made:
Mu Tong == Qu Mai
Bing Lang == Zhi Shi + Yu Li Ren
Bie Jia == Qing Hao + Sheng Di Huang


Preparation: Decoction.


Actions: Warms the Yang, transforms stagnation, promotes water metabolism
