Category: Formulas that Tonify Qi and Blood

Pattern: Qi and Blood deficiency that leaves the Ren Mai and Chong Mai unsecured

Key Symptoms: Restless foetus, tendency to miscarriage, malpositioned foetus, difficult delivery
Secondary Symptoms: Also considered a prophylactic against miscarriage and difficult delivery


Ingredients

Dang Gui 5g
Jing Jie Sui 2.5g
Huang Qi 2.5g (honey fried)
Tu Si Zi 5g (wine fried)
Hou Po 2g
Qiang Huo 1.5g
Bai Shao 4g
Gan Cao 1.5g
Chuan Xiong 5g
Ai Ye 1.5g
Chuan Bei Mu 5g (add near end)
Sheng Jiang 3sl


Preparation: Decoction.


Actions: Tonifies the Qi, nourishes the Blood, regulates the Qi, quiets the foetus, expedites delivery

Contraindications: Fire from Yin deficiency



Notes:
For foetal malposition start in 28th week and give 4-7 day courses, reassessing after each course up to 15 days. Chuan Bei Mu can removed for this purpose.
For threatened miscarriage due to Kidney deficiency add Kidney tonics such as Sang Ji Sheng and Du Zhong. If owing to middle burner heat add Huang Qin.
Once labour begins prescribe as needed, usually 2-4 doses are sufficient. If labour is prolonged add Ren Shen to increase the mother's Qi and increase Chuan Bei Mu to promote a smooth delivery.
